The first guy collects deposit cans, starting at 6AM, working until 2 PM. For this, he told me in broken English, he will make between fifteen and twenty dollars a day. Seems like pretty hard work to me.
The second guy was walking and laughing with his son, about eight in the morning, along with many others, presumably on the way to school. Lots of Dads doing just that; I’ve seen them in the morning and afternoon. I wasn’t counting, but maybe a quarter or a third of the parents walking their kids were fathers.
Myths die hard.
