What do you know? If you’re behind in the polls in an election, and you start calling your opponents terrorists and hooligans, your supporters pick up on it. D’oh.
from CNN:
With recent polls showing Sen. Barack Obama’s lead increasing nationwide and in several GOP-leaning states, some Republicans attending McCain-Palin campaign rallies have taken on a new emotion: Rage.
An angry supporter confronts Sen. John McCain at a rally in Wisconsin on Thursday.

“When you have an Obama, [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and the rest of the hooligans up there going to run this country, we have got to have our head examined. It’s time that you two are representing us, and we are mad. So, go get them,” one man told Sen. John McCain at a town hall meeting in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
It’s almost a cry for help, with the GOP party faithful amazed McCain could possibly be losing.
“And we’re all wondering why that Obama is where he’s at, how he got here. I mean, everybody in this room is stunned that we’re in this position,” another man said at a rally.
“I’m mad. I’m really mad. And what’s going to surprise you, it’s not the economy. It’s the socialists taking over our country,” another man said.
This post is pretty funny. You actually think Republicans are mad because of some campaign speeches. I’m continually amazed that Obama supporters really believe this kind of nonsense. And for anyone on the left to accuse others of “rage” is doubly amusing — after years of BDS and now the crazy hatred of Palin. If you want to see real rage, watch what happens if McCain manages to pull off the upset, and the left-wing nutcases go berserk, screaming about a stolen election, and concocting all sorts of conspiracy theories. By the way, no one in the McCain campaign called anyone a terrorist, except for Ayers, who was actually a terrorist.
It’s not “rage” because … if McCain were to win, then the other side would show us what “rage”is.But anyway, why ARE McCain supporters hollering “terrorist .. string him up .. kill ’em” etc.?If it’s all around, just a common thing, where is the evidence of Dems hollering such things about McCain?
Well, David C, I was beginning to wonder if your silence showed even you were sickened by the garbage being served up by crazed Caribou Barbie and the McCain campaign. I can’t begin to tell you how reassured I am that you are not. Moreover, I’m really beginning to appreciate your talismanic invocation of “BDS” as a one-size-fits-all explanation for all that’s gone wrong in this country during the last eight years. It automatically: (1) absolves the incumbent of any responsibility for the many calamities caused by his mistakes; (2) classifies his critics as crazy; and (3) best of all, relieves someone like you of the necessity of having to think about why so many people revile Bush and all he stands for.As for the McSame campaign, don’t be so “head up and locked.” (an old WWII aviation term BTW.) If you dare, cruise over to Balloon Juice and check out the post Beyond Ugly by that arch Republican apostate, John Cole.If that BDS territory is too frightening, check out this column by David Brooks. Even he realizes the Repubs are a spent force.
I thought I’d excerpt a comment from that renowned Commie, BDS-afflicted, Moonbat, David Gergen:GERGEN: I think it’s so—well, I really worry when we get people—when you get the kind of rhetoric that you’re getting at these rallies now. I think it’s really imperative that the candidates try to calm people down.
Stephen,”But anyway, why ARE McCain supporters hollering “terrorist .. string him up .. kill ’em” etc”First of all, it’s like 3 people or so. Secondly, they were referring to Ayers. redhand,”if your silence showed even you were sickened by the garbage being served up by crazed Caribou Barbie and the McCain campaign.”No, because I reject your silly characterization of what you think the McCain campaign is doing. There’s nothing whatsoever to be “sickened” by. I’m not sure the Ayers angle will work, but as I said in the other thread, it’s fair game. And describing Palin like that isn’t exactly the way to make a case for anything, other than for being someone who shouldn’t be taken seriously.”a one-size-fits-all explanation for all that’s gone wrong in this country during the last eight years”Complete strawman, I’ve never once advanced any such notion, as you know.” absolves the incumbent of any responsibility for the many calamities caused by his mistakes”Bush is reponsible for his mistakes. Just because I don’t have your BDS view of the extent of those mistakes, doesn’t mean I don’t hold him responsible for the things he has actually done.”classifies his critics as crazy”The only critics that are crazy are the ones that are actually, well, crazy. The rest are just critics — like myself. I guess you missed the numerous times on this blog that I’ve described Bush as incompetent, a bad president, a terrible leader, etc. But of course acknowledging that would require some intellectual honesty, which you haven’t shown any of here in a long time. You’ve done nothing more than partisan cheerleading, and insult-slinging at Republicans.”of the necessity of having to think about why so many people revile Bush and all he stands for”Yeah, I don’t know that. I’m well aware of Bush’s actual failings, as well as most of the crazy conspiratorial notions about him. I just don’t think he’s the anti-Christ like you and the other members of the BDS brigade. I know that’s a difficult thing to grasp, that there can be degrees of dislike.Your response here is a prime example of BDS. I said nothing defending Bush, yet you write a bunch of nonsense as if I had just written a post praising him.”If you dare, cruise over to Balloon Juice and check out the post “I read left-wing stuff all the time. I just don’t swallow it uncritically like you. The idea that the McCain campaign is horribly negative is nothing more than propaganda. “the Repubs are a spent force.”Keep on dreaming. It is going to be so funny if McCain actually manages to win this.
davidc,I’ll bet you a dollar McCain or Palin calls Obama a Muslim, perhaps indirectly.
“well, I really worry when we get people—when you get the kind of rhetoric that you’re getting at these rallies now. I think it’s really imperative that the candidates try to calm people down.”Most of the anger from Republicans is directed at the McCain campaign itself for what they see as a failure to be tough enough with attacks on Obama. It’s very similar to what many on the left have said for years about Democrats — that they aren’t fighting hard enough, aren’t responding to attacks, etc. Btw, Gergen hasn’t been on the Republican side in a long time.”I’ll bet you a dollar McCain or Palin calls Obama a Muslim, perhaps indirectly.”It would have to be directly. Having seen the spurious charges of racism against the McCain campaign based on nothing, “indirectly” could mean anything.
I’ll bet you a dollar McCain or Palin calls Obama a Muslim, perhaps indirectly.Did you see that news item about the absentee ballots in a New York county, where Obama’s name was misspelled “Osama”?
Actually, McCain helped dispel the rumors. He responded to a supporter that “Obama is a good citizen… he’s not an Arab.”
“What do you know? If you’re behind in the polls in an election, and you start calling your opponents terrorists and hooligans, your supporters pick up on it. Which explains all the venom being hurled at Palin I guess??Real haute couture, those tee shirts
Hmm Conservatives call someone a hooligan and/or a terrorists. left wing wackos fire bomb folks yards who are foolish enough to have McCain Palin signs in the yard. One side has some folks who CALL someone at Terrorist the other side has some folks who ACT like Terrorists.Yep recent events sure are a condemnation of the McCain Campaign.Sorry Steven but if you are going to condemn the McCain for what some hecklers yell out in a rally, then to be ethically consistant, you have to condemn the Obama campaign for what some wackos throw into McCain supporters yardsShade of Bill Ayers, this stuff must be contagious.
Question? How does this semi-tepid “holligan” statement compare with some of the verbage used by say Redhand hear, describing Bush?More inflammatory?About the same? Not even close?Calliing Pelosi etal hooligans is the scene of a coming Kristalnacht??Please! Try to get back in touch with reality.
